What is Crop Over?
Crop Over is Barbados’ premier cultural festival, celebrating the end of the sugar cane harvest season. Running from June through early August, this months-long extravaganza of music, dance, and Bajan culture culminates in Kadooment Day – the festival’s spectacular grand finale.
Understanding Kadooment Day: The Main Event
Kadooment Day (first Monday in August) is Barbados’ version of Carnival. The massive street parade features colorful masquerade bands with elaborate costumes, soca music, drinks’ trucks and thousands of participants dancing through the streets.
Your Festival Timeline
- June-July: Calypso competitions, band launches, and fetes (parties) begin
- Late July (the Friday before Kadooment day): Foreday Morning (pre-dawn street party) and final events
- Kadooment Day: The grand parade and main celebration
