In celebration of World Blood Donor Day (June 14th), pickUP Barbados partnered with PwC East Caribbean to offer free rides to and from the Barbados National Blood Collection Centre during the week of June 10th to 14th, 2025. The campaign aimed to make it easier for Barbadians to donate blood by removing any transportation barriers potential donors may face. It was inspired by an extraordinary act of kindness by one of pickUP’s drivers, Charice.
Earlier this year, Charice went beyond the call of duty when, on a ride, her passenger shared their story of being unable to donate blood for their relative. Moved by their disappointment, Charice spontaneously offered to donate in their place. The moment struck a chord across the company and became the foundation for this community-focused initiative.
The initiative, sponsored by PwC East Caribbean, provided Barbadians with no-cost transportation to donate blood. Volunteers and staff from the Barbados National Blood Collection Centre also played a key role in accommodating the increased donor traffic during the week leading up to World Blood Donor Day.
World Blood Donor Day, recognized each year on June 14th, raises awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products. It also thanks voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts.
